Two Albanian men have been arrested at Alicante-Elche airport after trying to board a flight to Edinburgh with fake Italian passports.

National Police agents were carrying out a routine passport check on Monday afternoon when they got suspicious over the numbers on the allegedly Italian passports.

Enquiries led to the men being arrested and appearing before an Elche judge, after the agents discovered the passports were fake.

Last week a Georgian family of three were detained at the airport over fake Slovenian passports that they were going to use to travel to Dublin.
