The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and the Interior has finalised legislation that will see the Guardia Civil used to protect nuclear installations across Spain, replacing private security firms as the first response.

The law has been implemented in response to a terrorist threat, and forces the nuclear installation owners and power companies to pay an annual cost of 61,053 euro per officer to the Spanish government.

The law is expected to be approved this week.
