Despite figures featured in The Courier a fortnight ago showing big increases in drowning tragedies in Spain this year, the Murcia region has a very different story to tell, with the number of deaths by drowning almost halved compared to 2014. So far the figures for this year show the number of water-related deaths down from 18 to 11, though the number of people helped by the team of 250 lifeguards(picture of an exercise drill in San Javier) has risen by 3 to 41.
