The Guardia Civil have introduced a mounted patrol along stretches of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage walk in northern Spain following on from April’s disappearance of American walker, Denise Thiem, who to this day has still not be found. The Camino is a trail walked by pilgrims en route to Santiago de Compostela cathedral, but following on Thiem’s disappearance and incidents of female hikers being assaulted by men, the Guardia have now gone onto horseback on parts of the route which have no vehicular access.
