After a summer of off-field heartbreak and administrative relegation, Elche begin life in the Segunda division this weekend at Ponferradina this Sunday evening. All the star players have gone, and former Valencia player, Rubén Baraja (pictured), became Elche’s new manager, with Fran Escriba having gone to Getafe, along with a couple of the club’s former players. Baraja got a boost this week with the news that La Liga had given the Ilicitanos the go-ahead to increase their squad from 18 to 25 players, as debts continue to be sorted out.
