Two more signings pushed CD Torrevieja towards their full squad quota for the forthcoming season with goalkeeper Miguel and Quintero putting pen to paper. Miguel has featured in a couple of pre-season friendlies, keeping a clean sheet after his introduction at half time against in last Friday night’s fine goalless draw against Hercules at the Vicente Garcia Stadium(Action shot showing Adrian Banderas dispossessing the Hercules keeper).

Quintero led Jumilla to promotion to 2B in the summer and has been enticed to join the Salineros to repeat the feat. He played 36 times last season for Jumilla, netting four times, a fair return for a strong central defender. He was instrumental in Jumilla winning group 10 last term and securing their place in 2B with a first time 5-4 winning aggregate score. Ironically, Quintero (pictured in blue playing for Jumilla) did not feature in the recent friendly between Torry and Jumilla which ended 2-2.

Torrevieja finish off their pre-season fixtures tomorrow evening (Saturday at 7.00pm) away to third division Mar Menor, who play their games at the compact Pitin stadium in San Javier, which has a three thousand spectator capacity. With the league programme kicking off the following weekend, manager Pedreño will by then know exactly how he intends to line up in Ontinyent.

Central defender Martin remains side-lined with a hamstring worry, whilst fans favourite Rafa Gomez seems to have done a disappearing act that Paul Daniels and Tommy Cooper would have been proud of! After starring in a couple of friendly games, including captaining the side against Elche, Rafa did not turn up for training and trying to arrange to even talk to him on the phone has achieved a degree of difficulty akin to gaining an audience with the Pope. Rafa was the team’s choice as the best player for last season as well as finishing up as the side’s top scorer, so it is something of an understatement to suggest that his departure is something of a blow!

Next week the club will hold the draw at the ground to select from the “hat” the winning business that will have their name and number on the team shirts all this season. Companies have to buy two season tickets at a cost of 100 euros each and they then are put automatically in the draw. These companies are free to raffle off their two season tickets and recoup the cost, giving themselves an absolutely golden chance to land this prestigious prize. With less than a dozen participants to date involved, the odds are also looking good for those who have supported the club in this manner.

There is still time for local businesses to win a great opportunity to publicise themselves on the team shirts, and more details can be obtained by e-mailing Jefferson Scott, the Vice President of CD Torrevieja on jeff53ref@yahoo .co.uk or by phoning him on 610 134 068.
