The recent recession means that Spaniards have been cutting back on their food bills, with an average of sixty euros less being spent over a year on stuffing the shopping baskets last year, compared to 2013.

A quarter of the shopping bills are spent on meat, followed by fruit and veg, and then cereals and bread, with reductions in desserts and alcohol.
