A blue crab is threatening marine species along the Costa Blanca with a number being found along Spain’s eastern coast, including one being found in recent months at Guardamar del Segura.

Researchers from the University of Valencia have been monitoring developments with the aim of stopping it spreading around the area.

The Atlantic blue crab comes from the western Atlantic Ocean and is a predator that threatens all kinds of Mediterranean mollusc species like cockles and jellyfish, as well as some types of fish, leading to concerns from local fishermen.
