The players maybe having their summer break but they are still working hard behind the scenes at CD Torrevieja.
With the coaching team confirmed for next season, attention has turned to the stadium for different reasons. Built in the 1970’s, not much has changed at the Vicente Garcia stadium which is just opposite Sports City. With the last coat of paint being applied nearly a decade ago, club director Chris Darwen and his Business and Community Manager, Barrie Crawford are appealing to the local community to support them in their efforts to freshen the ground up.
“Nobody can deny that the Vicente Garcia is a beautiful place to watch and play football. I’ve watched a lot of games across the world and not many beat being here on a Sunday evening as the sun sets,” says Chris. “Sadly, the ground itself is looking a little tired and we are looking to get some hands on deck this summer to give it a makeover!”
With that in mind the club are staging a Painting Party on Saturday 18th July. “We are asking for two things really”, added Barrie Crawford. Firstly, if you cannot make it, donate a pot of paint. Just that gesture will show us that the club means something to the locals. Better still, join us on the 18th, bring the paint and a roller and spend the day with us making the ground look great for the players next season!”
Club Vice-President Jefferson Scott has offered to pay for drinks aplenty for the workforce on the day and local businessman Sean Bell will be providing free food for the volunteers. The club are appealing for paint donations, white or blue, and asking for people to be at the ground at 10.00am on Saturday July 18th. All you need to bring is a roller and tray, a great attitude and, again, some paint!
