Work has begun on converting Orihuela City’s derelict bull ring into a multi-purpose entertainment venue catering for up to 2,800 people.

The 400-thousand-euro project was described by Orihuela mayor, Emilio Bascuñana, as “historic” after over three decades of the site not being used.

The structural aspects of the arena would be preserved, in addition to creating a play area for children; a cafeteria; and new toilet facilities.

The new-look venue should be completed by October.
