Prosecutors are calling for an eight-month jail term plus a fine of just under fifteen-hundred euros to be handed out to a speeding motorist in Alicante City, who put insulating tape on part of his license plate to avoid a fine when he went through a radar trap.
The original penalty would have been between 400 and 600 euros for his infringement in January last year when he was driving down Avenida de la Universidad.
Alicante local police realised that something was up when they tried to process the fine, and discovered that no registration plate matched up to that of the car.
They proceeded to work their way through various combinations of numbers and letters, and eventually managed to locate the offending vehicle.
A visit to the owner’s home saw the car with the original plate, with masking tape being discovered on the property which helped to change the C, into an O on the registration.
