A bogus electricity company worker has been arrested by the Guardia Civil and the National Police, with the 32-year-old Algerian national described as “one of the biggest thieves and swindlers” in the Vega Baja region.
The man would do work in people’s homes in areas like Almoradi, Orihuela, and Pilar de la Horadada, but wouid then steal electrical items when the owners were not looking, as well as personal documents and bank cards.
The crook would then go along to an ATM machine, and try and empty the accounts of his victims, with the National Police saying that ATM security cameras were invaluable in bringing him to justice.
The Elche resident is charged with committing seven home burglaries as well credit card fraud, and wore clothing with logos of a well-known electricity company to build up the trust of his “marks”, before he robbed them.
The man was refused bail after a court appearance.
