Alicante-Elche airport has seen the first month of 2018 continuing to build on last year’s rises, on the back of 13 million passengers in 2017.

Figures from airport operator AENA showed that nearly 706 thousand passengers used the facility in January, which was a rise of three percent over a year.

UK travellers dominated with over 257 thousand passengers; domestic travellers at 97 thousand; and then Dutch nationals at 55 thousand.

In what is likely to be the last January of operations at San Javier before the move to Corvera, just over 45 thousand passengers used the Mar Menor airport, a rise of over 15 percent on the previous January. 80 percent of the travellers were from the UK.
