Shock result at St James’s Park as lowly Newcastle beat Manchester United 1-0 to move out of the bottom three and United stay second. Leaders Manchester City are now a massive 16 points clear after a 5-1 home win over Leicester courtesy of 4 goals from Sergio Aguero. Liverpool, in third comfortably, won away 2-0 at Southampton with Mo Salah and Roberto Firminho once again on target. The North London derby at Wembley was settled by a Harry Kane goal in the 49th minute as Tottenham beat Arsenal. Chelsea can climb back into the top 4 with victory against rock bottom West Brom on Monday night.  It’s very tight at the bottom with only three points separating Stoke in 19th to Newcastle in 13th position. With the title race very nearly over, the excitement for the rest of the season will focus on the relegation battle.


Leaders Wolves won again stretching their lead to 12 points over in form Aston Villa, who won their 6th game in a row, winning the derby 2-0 against Birmingham. Derby could only draw 1-1 at home to Norwich and slip to third. Sunderland produced the comeback of the weekend from 3-0 down at half time away at Bristol City to draw 3-3 but still stay in the bottom three with Burton and Barnsley.

Scottish Cup

The last 16 of the Cup did not produce any shocks with Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Motherwell, Hearts and Kilmarnock all making it through to the quarter finals with Falkirk and Morton the only sides left in from outside the Premier Division.

Rugby Union

The big game of the RBS Six Nations weekend was at Twickenham as England beat Wales 12-6 in a tense battle courtesy of a couple of Jonny May tries in the first half. England are second on points difference behind table leaders Ireland who ran in 8 tries in thrashing Italy 56-19 in Dublin. Greg Laidlaw kicked 6 second-half penalties as Scotland beat France 32-26 at Murrayfield to move into fourth place just behind Wales.


England lost their second T20 Tri series match against Australia in Melbourne by 7 wickets and now must beat New Zealand in back to back matches in Wellington next week to join Australia in the Final.


The very popular Coral Snooker shoot out was held in Watford over the weekend with 64 players competing in the one frame match knockout tournament. A very entertaining event was won by the World no 61 Michael Georgiou of Cyprus beating Graeme Dott on the pink in the final.
