It’s likely that the baby born to an 11-year-old Bolivian girl in Murcia’s Virgen de La Arrixaca hospital at the beginning of the month will be adopted.
As reported in The Courier last week, the baby’s father is the girl’s 14-year-old brother, with the newborn being cared for by Murcia social services, whilst the young mother is also under the care of the authorities.
A report in the La Verdad newspaper suggests that the parents of the siblings, as well as the 11-year-old girl, are willing to give up the guardianship of the baby boy.
The family have lived in the Murcia region for a decade, with the parents both working as farm labourers.
DNA test results still have to come through to officially confirm the baby’s father is the girl’s brother, but the girl’s father was away working in France at the time she fell pregnant, and so authorities have ruled out any abuse on his part.
Because the father of the baby was aged 13 at the time of conception, no legal action can be taken against him.
