A roundabout is to be built on the CV-95 Orihuela to Torrevieja road in the Jacarilla area.
The aim is to improve the safety record at a notorious accident black spot, namely the “Y” junction to Jacarilla next to the petrol station, known as the Camino de la Cuesta del Pelegrín.
Last month’s meeting between Orihuela mayor Emilio Bascuñana and Valencian government representatives brought the news that a number of new roundabouts were to be constructed on the CV-95, but no specific details were declared at the time.
The project at Jacarilla will cost over half a million euros, with Valencia’s head of Public Works, Carlos Domingo, saying that the road gets especially busy during the summer, and a lack of “waiting lanes” has added to the problems faced there.
A new layout is to be introduced at the junction, besides the roundabout, with changes in access including that to the petrol station, as well as reducing the speed limit.
