Two men using fake passports at Alicante-Elche airport were arrested by the National Police, with one of them being sent straight back to Spain, after landing in Dublin. Both were then fast-tracked for a court appearance and sentenced.
The 26-year-old Albanian national thought he had got away with it when he arrived in Ireland using a fake Italian passport, only to have his ruse rumbled by Irish authorities and put straight back on a flight to Alicante-Elche to meet the authorities.
A 32-year-old Iranian man didn’t manage fly out of the airport at all, as he was looking to board a Newcastle-bound flight. He was travelling with a counterfeit Romanian passport, with National Police officers spotting it as a fake.
Both men were put in front of a judge and pled guilty, and each were given a six-month jail term and a fine, but the prison sentence was suspended as it was less than two years, and neither of them had an existing criminal record.
