The net has widened in the drug trafficking and corruption investigation involving Guardia Civil officers based in Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada.

Investigating Torrevieja judge Juana López Hoyos has taken statements from nine additional Guardia officers, in addition to the ten who had been arrested over the allegations.

As reported by The Courier last week, two of the officers are specifically being accused of drug trafficking, whilst a host of other charges have been laid down against them and their colleagues, including bribery, extortion  and coercion.

Secret investigations, codenamed Operation Sakura,  have been going on since 2015 with three cocaine laboratories being raided and British, Spanish, Belgian, and Columbian nationals arrested.
