A total of 26 people have been arrested during Operation Sakura ,which has been carried out across the Alicante, Valencia, Cádiz and Murcia regions, with nine of the Guardia officers being refused bail after a Torrevieja court appearance.

Two of the officers are specifically being accused of drug trafficking, whilst a host of other charges have been laid down against them and their colleagues, including bribery, extortion, criminal group membership, theft, and coercion.

Investigations have been going on since 2015 under Torrevieja judge Juana López Hoyos in a secret operation, with three cocaine laboratories being raided and the arrest of British, Spanish, Belgian, and Colombian nationals.
