A homeless man, with mental issues, was arrested last Friday over a spate of arson attacks in the woodlands of Guardamar, only to be bailed under Spanish law after 72 hours, which left him free to start another fire on Monday.

He was rearrested after a small fire started close to the mouth of the Segura river, with firefighters from Guardamar and Almoradi quickly extinguishing the fire in a five square metre area.

The man, who lives in the woodlands, is said to be reponsible for eight fires over a fortnight according to the Guardia Civil, with a further court appearance set to impose bail conditions which means he cannot return to the area or even the Guardamar municipality.
