A Moroccan man is facing 10 years behind bars for assaulting two Guardia Civil officers in Callosa de Segura last year, with prosecutors also presenting a 32-euro bill for a ripped pair of trousers belonging to one of the agents.
Twenty-nine-year-old Towfid B. has already spent 18 months in custody after the assault on Calle Adolfo Cardona Pascual, where he was riding on a bicycle in the early morning.
The agents had gone up to him in a routine inquiry and the Moroccan went berserk grabbing the wing mirror of a car and using it as a weapon as he bashed one of them on the head with it. The aggressor then snatched one of their guns as he flayed punches at both men before they managed to restrain him.
Both officers were badly injured, including one of them having a brain injury, and prosecutors are pushing for financial compensation, as well as paying for a pair of their torn trousers and compensating the owner of the car to the sum of 51 euro for his wing mirror.
