The number of heavy lorries using Alicante Province roads has gone up by 10 percent in three years, according to figures produced by the Public Works ministry in Madrid.

The statistics take in a period up to last year, with one of the busiest routes for trucks being the A-7 between Alicante and Murcia, with increased delays and accidents.

Plans for increasing the lanes on the A-7 between Orihuela and Crevillente to cut congestion were approved in July last year, with a budget of 80 million euro, but nothing has publically moved forward on the project.
