Passengers on board a Vueling Airbus from Barcelona to Malaga met with a sticky problem on Saturday, when the summer sun caused their aircraft to become stuck on the runway.

The Airbus A320-200, on flight VY-2125, had lined runway 25L up for departure and was waiting for takeoff clearance. After the flight was cleared for takeoff, the crew powered up the engines but the plane didn´t move.

The Aviation Herald report that the asphalt on the runway had melted, causing the tyres to sink into it and become wedged in the runway. The runway later required resurfacing.

The airport reported that the runway was closed due to an aircraft blocking the way and were forced to use the shorter runway for flights, causing minor delays.

The passengers on VY-2125 arrived at their destination six hours later.
