An intoxicated 41-year-old Finnish woman was arrested by the Guardia Civil after knocking over a cyclist in the Bigastro area on Sunday morning. It’s the latest collision involving a motorist that was either drunk or on drugs to hit a cyclist in Alicante Province, with five people having lost their lives since early May.
A 30-year-old Moroccan cyclist was struck, with the woman driving away from the scene, before she was discovered by the Guardia Civil in the Guardamar area in the early evening.
Even with the time delay, she was found to still be well over the drink-drive limit, and Guardia officers discovered that she did not have a driving license.
The cyclist was taken to the Vega Hospital where he was said to be in a serious condition, as the crash became the latest to be added to the growing list of accidents in Alicante Province involving drunken or drugged-up motorists hitting cyclists.
