Murcia’s new president, Fernando López Miras, says that the 19 Mar Menor beaches would have kept their coveted Blue Flag status if surveys had been conducted now.

López Miras made his comments on a visit to the area, accompanied by San Pedro del Pinatar mayor, Visitación Martínez, on the back of last week’s news that the Mar Menor had been stripped of all the Blue Flag awards due to pollution coming in from the Campo de Cartagena last year.

The President said that the local waters are pollution-free, backed up by scientific surveys, and he added that it was important to protect a “jewel” in the Murcia region.
