Guardia Civil and Torrevieja local police officers smashed into an apartment in the Acequión area of the city on Saturday after a man had barricaded himself in, and was threatening three women with a knife.

The incident was in a social-housing block on Plaza de las Islas Canarias by the Acequión health centre, with police getting the call about a man who was involved with a row with a neighbour, who then was threatening to kill three women in his grandmother’s flat.

Despite pleas from the Guardia and the police, the man would not open the door, and so a court order was obtained to enter the home, with the knife-wielder threatening to kill himself, before officers cuffed him. It was revealed subsequently that he had an outstanding arrest warrant against him for violence against women.
