Passengers were thrown into panic after a man threatened to detonate a bomb on the AVE service between Barcelona and Girona yesterday evening. The Moroccan national told them that he was carrying explosives, and the alarm was sounded by the travellers who phoned the emergency services.

Armed police arrested the man him at gunpoint at Girona station, and with the suspect found to be unarmed and not carrying a bomb, though he had not ID documents on him.
