British teenager Daniel Richardson, from the Catral Taekwando Club, won a bronze medal in the junior section of last weekend’s Croatia Open event held in Zagreb, taking the honour in the 55 kilo section. Daniel was part of the Spanish team and was chosen as a reward for his efforts, after taking the silver medal in the finals of the Spanish junior championships last month in Segovia.

His status as a non-Spanish national meant that he could not be picked for the Spanish national team for the world championships in Canada this weekend, but as a consolation he was chosen for the Croatia competition.

He’s coached at the Catral club by Julio Amoraga, who is trying to make sure that Daniel’s career in the sport progresses, potentially back home at a national level for the UK. He will be taking part next in the Paris Open at the end of the month, as well as the Spanish Club Championships which will be staged locally in Alicante.
