MIRANDES 2 ELCHE 2 (A.E.T.)
ELCHE WIN 4-3 ON PENALTIES
Elche advanced into the third round of the Copa del Rey on Tuesday night after a penalty shoot out victory at their fellow Segunda division club Mirandés. The Ilicitanos took the early initiative through a Guillermo goal in the 17th minute only for Sangalli to equalise eight minutes later.
It was nip and tuck in the second half, with a powerful shot from Guarrotxena giving Elche keeper Germán no chance on the hour mark, but the experienced Nino levelled things up with 15 minutes of normal time remaining, with Maikel Mesa missing an injury time chance when he only had Germán to beat.
Both sides looked tired in extra time, and Elche took the penalty shoot out, four-three, as Guarrotxena hit the woodwork with his strike, and then Germán saved Néstor’s spot kick to secure victory for the Ilicitanos.
