450 competitors from across Spain converged on Torrevieja’s swimming pool at the Palacio de los Deportes last weekend for the 30th national lifesaving championships. Junior and senior swimmers took part in various contests including overcoming water obstacles and swimming with a 40 kilo dummy, as well as relay races. Another lifesaving event will be staged in May aimed at encouraging sports tourism to the area.
